Coronavirus Update 18.03.20

Dear All,

As you are aware, these are uncertain times due to the Coronavirus.  I am sure you have been anxious to know what will happen about our worship services in the Circuit.

The Methodist Council has issued a statement through the official website on Tuesday, 17 March 2020, 3 pm for us all to comply with.

It is with sadness that all worship services in the Methodist Churches are suspended for the time being in line with Government guidance.

Therefore, Birmingham (West) & Oldbury Circuit must uphold this statutory policy with effect from Wednesday, 18 March 2020, (00:00) midnight.

What does this mean: suspending services means that we advise that baptisms will not take place in public worship and if there’s a planned wedding in a Methodist Church you should speak to your minister. Whilst funerals may still take place, the church advise that the number of people attending should be limited as per the Government ‘s advice.

In terms of Church business, all meetings including church councils and circuit meetings should be cancelled.

This suspension is extended to all the groups hiring Methodist premises as well as other community events like lunch clubs, after school clubs, stay & play, playgroups and fellowship groups which must all be suspended.

Pastoral concerns: Churches may want to consider carrying out pastoral ‘visits’ by phone. As Circuit remember that many people are anxious and a reassuring phone call and an offer to pray might be very much appreciated.

Let us all continue to pray for those in isolation and the bereaved family due to coronavirus. In God we Trust.

Kind Regards

M. Chisvo
